Weekly Events Keep the Focus on Fitness

Crystal City (Arlington, VA) – As the 5k Friday’s race series approaches its April 26th finish, the Crystal City Business Improvement District (BID) prepares to launch its line-up of warm weather fitness programming. Starting on Monday, April 29th, fitness and health permeate Crystal City’s open spaces with weekly yoga and Zumba classes, a farmers market, street hockey, and a floral frenzy.

“April’s 5k Friday series gets people out of their offices and ready to run,” said Angela Fox, President/CEO of the Crystal City BID. “We want to keep the momentum going with our weekly fitness programming that helps round out a healthy and green lifestyle.”

The programming kicks off Monday, April 29th at 7:00am with the weekly yoga class held in Crystal City’s beautiful Water Park located across from 1750 Crystal Drive. Led by instructors from Mind Your Body Oasis, Crystal City’s newest Yoga Studio located in the Landing in the Crystal City Shops @ 1750, Monday morning yoga gives participants an opportunity to flex their way into the work week. Enjoy these weekly sessions through the end of September.

The Crystal City FRESHFARM Market returns on Tuesday, April 30th with the same diverse selection of foods and goods from local producers, but in a NEW location in front of 251 18th Street S (next to Wells Fargo Bank). The market runs from 3-7PM and is open weekly through November 19th. Stop by for opening day and get a free Crystal City banner bag to haul away your purchases – while supplies last.

Ring in the first of May at noon with free outdoor Zumba in the courtyard at 2121 Crystal Drive. This class, led by instructors from the local Sport & Health Clubs, takes place every Wednesday through the end of September. Participants can sweat it out without worry as the nearby Sport & Health opens its doors to all Zumba participants for a post lesson complimentary shower.

Experts say gardening is good for the soul so grab your straw hat and gardening gloves and dig into the action of the annual Floral Frenzy: Bulb Blitz. Occurring each spring after the beautiful tulip blooms have peaked, the Bulb Blitz invites area residents and workers to dig up the thousands of tulip bulbs from along the sidewalk in front of along 2121 Crystal City Drive for planting at home. Typically discarded after a single season of color, these high quality bulbs will continue to bloom for several years. Grab a spade and beautify your garden.
