More Entertainment Options Coming to Crystal City
Bowlero Signs Lease for New 44,000 Square Foot Venue on 23rd Street South
Crystal City (Arlington), Va., October 11, 2018 – Bowlero Corporation has signed a 44,000-square-foot lease in Crystal City, bringing a new entertainment venue to Northern Virginia in a market that is bustling with activity. Bowlero is Bowlero Corp’s rapidly expanding, millennial-inspired brand that features blacklight bowling lanes, laneside lounge seating, and interactive arcade all in a family friendly setting.
New York-based Bowlero signed a lease at The Buchanan, a 442-unit apartment building at 320 23rd Street South in Crystal City. Build-out will begin within the next month, and the venue is anticipated to open by mid-2019. Bowlero joins the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, part of JBG SMITH’s Central District project that includes a specialty grocer and other retail, in bringing new creative destination retail experiences to Crystal City.
The announcement comes as Crystal City’s eclectic 23rd Street Restaurant Row sees a round of re-investment from independent small business entrepreneurs. Just a block from Bowlero’s future location, Federico Ristorante Italiano celebrated a grand opening after being acquired by long-time restaurateur and owner of Freddie’s Beach Bar & Restaurant a few doors up the street. Later this fall, local favorite Los Tios Grill, a Tex-Mex and Salvadoran restaurant, is also anticipated to open on the block.
“Local small businesses and experiential retailers alike clearly see the wealth of opportunities that the Crystal City area has to offer,” said Crystal City Business Improvement District Executive Director and President Tracy Gabriel. “The arrival of Bowlero and new restaurants are welcome additions to an evolving retail and entertainment landscape that speaks to the tremendous momentum driving the enhancement of the Crystal City experience.“
“The time is right for a tenant like Bowlero in this market,” said Nora Dweck-McMullen, Chief Operating Officer for Dweck Properties, the owner of The Buchanan. “Bowlero will be a perfect local spot for our tenants and the 32,000 residents in greater Crystal City, and will also draw visitors from elsewhere in Arlington County and around the region.”
These investments are part of the more than $2 billion of private investment planned for greater Crystal City over the next five years. An additional $3 billion of public investment will further improve transportation connectivity and walkability throughout the greater Crystal City area over the next decade.
The Crystal City BID has been highlighting the immensity of the transformation underway through its strategic planning process, called the Future Cities Project, which launched in April. The effort is rethinking the organization’s strategic priorities and forging the collective vision for the future of Crystal City, Pentagon City, and Potomac Yard – Arlington. The greater Crystal City area is Virginia’s largest downtown, similar in scale to the downtowns of Indianapolis and Austin.
