Long Bridge Park Phase 2: Aquatic Center

The centerpiece of Phase 2 of Long Bridge Park is a state-of-the-art community aquatics center connected to Crystal City by an extended Esplanade. The facility intends to serving a broad spectrum of abilities and interests, a comprehensive family destination where everyone can participate. Additional exterior amenties will be added including public outdoor gathering areas, trails, and public art.


  • Fifty meter pool for lap swimming, classes, and competitions to keep Arlingtonians fit and to bring top swimmers to the area
  • A 25-Yard Leisure and therapy pool for fun, play, teaching, therapy and exercise
  • Exercise rooms with free weights, cardiovascular equipment and classes
  • Additional support spaces including staff offices, party rooms, meeting rooms, and locker rooms
  • Additional 10-acres of park space


  • Parks Bond Referendum on November 6, 2012 ballot approved funding for Phase 2 of Long Bridge Park which included the aquatic center
  • Construction of Phase 2 was put on hold while County Staff identify ways to deliver the project within budget
  • The Long Bridge Park Advisory Committee delivered its recommendations to the County Manager in the spring of 2016
  • Design Build Contract Awarded to Coakley & Williams in November 2017
  • Construction anticipated in Fall of 2018 with opening in 2021/2022
