Central District

The Central District development will be a hub for Crystal City, attracting new visitors and residents and serving existing office tenants with a mix of retail, public space, and transit services. The project's purpose is to turn the area into a vibrant gathering spot — complete with approachable and comfortable retail, an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, a specialty grocer, dynamic public spaces, and a new entrance and public plaza for the Crystal City Metro station. Central District will create a sense of community and bring a true neighborhood feel to Crystal City.

 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Repurposes the existing 1770 Crystal Drive (formerly 1750), with the office portion fully leased by Amazon
  • Adds 109,000 square feet of retail including an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, specialty grocer, restaurants, bars, and other experiential offerings
  • Improves Architectural design that adds variety and visual interest
  • Enhances the Crystal Drive streetscape through a redesign and reorientation of the ground level façade
  • Removes surface parking and loop road to create a 44,000+ square feet of open space, envisioned by the Crystal City Sector Plan

  • Building vacated January 2017
  • County Board approved October 2018
  • Construction commenced October 2018
  • Estimated completion Q2 2021
