Crystal City Sector Plan

Crystal City Sector Plan

With the approval of the Crystal City Sector Plan, the Arlington County Board sent a clear signal that Crystal City is, and will remain, one of the smartest places to do business, live, and visit within the metropolitan area. Acting as a blueprint for redevelopment, the plan envisions a lively, complete, urban community with richer transit options, better streets, more functional public open spaces, and numerous community and neighborhood-oriented services.

Highlights

  • Accommodation of 65 new or redeveloped buildings by 2050
  • 7,500 new residential units providing a more appropriate jobs-housing balance
  • New Crystal City skyline with buildings topping out at around 300 feet (FAA approval already established)
  • 26,000 residents and 56,000 jobs by 2050
  • Landmark “Center Park” open space
  • Transformation of Jefferson Davis highway into an urban boulevard that serves to unify the neighborhood
  • Improved pedestrian environments with enhanced sidewalks and streetscapes, new ground level retail and a strategic distribution of parks and plazas for a quality urban lifestyle
  • Realignment of auto-centric roadways into a more traditional, multi-modal, urban street grid
  • Improved, high-capacity serving new development throughout the corridor
  • More sustainable design and high quality architecture
