Hometown Hero

Last week’s Hometown Hero was Aurora Highlands resident Lori Leffler, who has been organizing food drives to help those in need.

Each week, Lori checks with the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) to find out what items are needed most and how that demand has been growing.  She then shares this information with those in her neighborhood and coordinates a time to pick-up their donations contact-free, which she then delivers to AFAC.

Over the past few weeks, the size of the weekly donations has tripled, which Lori credits to her neighbors spreading the word and the giving nature of the Arlington community. If you have a neighbor who has stepped up at all during the pandemic, nominate them as a Hometown Hero on social media or by emailing

Front Porch Fridays

We may not all have a front porch - we may not all even have a balcony - but what we do have is our community. Music has always brought people together and now is no different.

Throw open your window, bring your device outside, and crank the volume up as the BID brings you #FrontPorchFridays! For an hour, every Friday, we're inviting everyone in National Landing to tune into the same iHeartRadio station to spend some time together listening to the same music.

This week's partner station is 98.7 WMZQ! Head to Facebook now to vote on the songs you'd like to hear!

Local, State & National Updates

Governor Northam has officially amended his “Forward Virginia” Executive Order and delayed the transition of Northern Virginia’s Phase One reopening through May 28. This move will give the region, including Arlington, two more weeks to meet the threshold metrics for limited reopening.

The CDC has released updated guidance to help communities during phased reopening. Business and workplace specific guidance can be found here.
