Travel the Galaxy this Summer with Crystal Screen: Star Trek
Next Season’s Theme to be Announced at Opening Night

Crystal City (Arlington, VA) – After a long, cold winter, the Crystal City Business Improvement District (BID) is ready to beam up with the Crystal Screen: Star Trek Outdoor Summer Film Festival. This year’s 11-week festival kicks off June 7 with 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture and will culminate with last year’s blockbuster hit, Star Trek. To stay ahead of the game and have some fun with the following year, the BID has developed a way to engage festival goers in next year’s planning. The theme for next summer will be announced on the opening night of this season. After the announcement, film enthusiasts will be able to vote on which films should be included in the 2011 festival.

“Last summer’s series was a smashing success with large crowds, a bigger screen and an even more powerful sound system,” said Angela Fox, President/CEO of the Crystal City BID. “We are excited to showcase Crystal Screen: Star Trek and we’re even more excited about next year’s theme and allowing our fans to vote on the films to be included!”

Following the announcement of the 2011 summer film festival theme on June 7, everyone is invited to vote on which films should be included in the 2011 festival. To vote, visit the Crystal City BID’s homepage at www.crystalcity.org.

This year’s festival will feature trivia nights, costume contests, visits from mobile dining partners, and fun Klingon activities with the Washington Shakespeare Company (WSC). The first ever WSC gala will take place early fall in conjunction with Crystal Screen: Star Trek and will be a Shakespeare show in Klingonese entitled By Any Other Name: An Evening of Shakespeare in Klingon, starring celebrities such as George Takei (the original "Sulu" from the television series) and Marc Okrand (creator of the Klingon language). George's Takei's appearance is subject to professional commitments.

Crystal Screen regularly attracts hundreds of visitors throughout the metropolitan area. The festival is shown in one of Crystal City’s many green spaces, owned, managed, and donated for the festival by Vornado/Charles E. Smith. Convenient to Metro and Crystal City’s many restaurants, Crystal Screen offers the perfect opportunity for a leisurely and affordable night out for dinner and a movie – whether a take-out picnic on the grass or a traditional sit-down dinner.
