The Crystal Run 5K Fridays Race Series is Back!

A Happy Hour You Can Feel Good About…

Crystal City (Arlington, VA) – It’s time again to dust off those running shoes and train for the 5K season with the Crystal City Business Improvement District (BID). At 6:30 PM every Friday evening in April, race enthusiasts can hit the streets of Crystal City on a professionally timed and certified course organized by Pacers Running Stores.

“The 5K Fridays Race Series is one of our most popular programs,” said Angela Fox, President/CEO of the Crystal City BID. “People can get their workout done early in a fun and festive way, and then relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend.”

After the race, runners can clean up with a free shower at the local Sport & Health gym before heading to the post-race party at FLASH located at 2450 Crystal Drive on April 1, 8, 15. Runners will be provided with a complimentary drink and can enjoy the lounge and photography exhibit located on the 12th and 13th floors. Participants can also take advantage of a special two for one pasta deal at Kora Restaurant.

In the spirit of the FLASH photography exhibit running from March 17th to April 17th, the Crystal City BID is partnering with ArlNow to introduce “Flickr Flash,” a photography contest that will feature the first two 5K Friday races. Photographers are invited to take pictures of the races on April 1st and April 8th and upload them to the contest’s Flickr pool where they will be reviewed by a panel from the Crystal City BID, FotoDC, and ArlNow. Ten photos will be selected by the panel as finalists and the public will be invited to vote to select the winner online at www.arlnow.com. The winner will be announced after the last race at Flash.

The photo opportunities, however, will not end after the contest as the April 22nd race welcomes the return of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign and the ever popular “Red Dress Run.” Runners are encouraged to run in red dresses with prizes awarded to the fastest and best dressed man and woman.

Those that might not have a shot at winning the race, lack photo skills or do not look good in red, may have a better shot at winning the small “Corner Classic” catering package for six to ten people that is being given away each week to a randomly selected race participant by Crystal City’s Corner Bakery Café.

Each race costs $20, or $75 for the series of five. Details and pre-race registration is available online. For more information about 5K Fridays and other Crystal City events visit www.crystalcity.org.
