Pretty Is as Pretty Does
Crystal Couture Connects Local Charities
with Fashion Events
Crystal City (Arlington, VA) – This February, Crystal City will be the go-to place for the area’s most fashionable and most charitable. As part of Crystal Couture, a two-week fashion extravaganza hosted by Crystal City Business Improvement District (BID), theme days – from Red Hot Saturday to Fit Friday – will benefit philanthropic partners Go Red for Women with the American Heart Association, Human Rights Campaign, Pajama Program, Suited for Change, MenzFit, Goodwill and Pacers with the Perpetual Prosperity Pump Foundation.
An exciting example of the philanthropic partnerships will happen Saturday night, Feburary 14, when Go Red for Women will use Crystal Couture as a casting call to find local women who choose to beat heart disease. As part of their nationwide search for women who ignite action and inspire others, women who share their stories of living heart-healthy will have a chance to represent Go Red for Women in a national TV special on women and heart disease, as well as on its Web site, in marketing materials and at events.
“Involving relevant charitable partners knits fashion together with community service giving Crystal Couture another layer of fun and meaning,” said Angela Fox, President/CEO of Crystal City BID. “Whether it's a casting call to find local heart-healthy stars, a clothing donation, or an opportunity to ensure recycle-reuse of fibers and shoes, philanthropy is fashionable and fun!”
In addition to competing for daily prizes, sampling themed food, drinks and fun, guests are encouraged to donate gently used or new clothing and footwear for a variety of worthy causes. While each day has a charitable partner, attendees may drop off donations for Goodwill anytime during the two-week event.
The BID is collaborating with fashion maven Katherine Glorioso of Gossip on 23rd, Lowe Enterprises Real Estate Group, and DC Magazine to stage two style-filled weeks of sample sales, runway and trunk shows from designers, local boutiques, and area salons. All events, including the opening and closing fetes, are free, open to the public, and held in newly developed retail space at the corner of 23rd Street and Crystal Drive.
