Navy Federal Credit Union Sponsors Corporate Challenge and Kids Races at 2011 Air Force Cycling Classic
(Arlington, VA) – Navy Federal Credit Union will have an even bigger presence at this year’s Air Force Cycling Classic, broadening its sponsorship to include kids’ races and the Corporate Team Challenge, Arlington Sports, Inc. announced. Navy Federal Credit Union again will sponsor this year’s popular kids’ races on both Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12. It will also sponsor the Corporate Team Challenge, an event that offers bragging rights for cycling enthusiasts riding and fundraising while representing their employers.
The two-day format, which has proved so successful, will continue for the highly competitive Pro races. The Air Force Cycling Classic’s Crystal Ride will be even bigger this year, providing additional opportunities for cycling enthusiasts of all abilities to participate in this National Capital Region signature event.
“Navy Federal is excited to be part of this great event that supports the Air Force Aid Society Airmen Helping Airmen program,” said Cutler Dawson, President/CEO. “We understand the strong commitment it takes to serve in the military and we appreciate the dedication of the men and women in uniform and the families who support them,” added Dawson.
The Navy Federal Credit Union Kids Races are free for children 9 and under. This tradition has been a fan favorite, as kids are allowed to test their legs on the same course that the pros will then compete on. Hundreds of kids from the region will be participating again, giving their best efforts as they have their chance to pedal around the courses.
Corporate Challenge Teams will be competing for pride and honors, as top fundraising teams will be recognized in a post-ride ceremony. Additionally, teams accumulating the most laps will also be recognized. Proceeds from the Challenge Teams will go to benefit the Air Force Aid Society.
The weekend’s events begin on Saturday, June 11, with the Air Force Cycling Classic’s Clarendon Cup. Amateur racers begin the day’s races, with the featured Men’s Pro race, now in its14th year, starting at noon. Then on Sunday, June 12, the pros will again be featured in the Air Force Cycling Classic Crystal Cup, which will follow the non-competitive Air Force Cycling Challenge Crystal Ride. Women’s and amateur races will complete the days cycling events. Saturday’s and Sunday’s races will again be part of the prestigious USA Cycling’s National Race Calendar.
Participants in the Air Force Cycling Classic Crystal Ride will again be able to earn a gold medal by completing eight laps in less than 3 ½ hours. A silver medal is earned by riding four laps, and a bronze for two laps in that timeframe. Registration for the Crystal Ride, the Corporate Challenge and the Kids Races are now open through the events website: www.AirForceCyclingClassic.com.
