Gears and Glitz Coming to Crystal City
The Inaugural ‘Crystal City Diamond Derby’ Puts a New Spin on Cycling
EVENT: MARCH 10, 2012

Crystal City, VA — The Crystal City Business Improvement District, in association with Vornado/Charles E. Smith, Dandies & Quaintrelles (D&Q), BNA and Sciathan Productions, is proud to announce the inaugural ‘Crystal City Diamond Derby,’ taking place on Saturday, March 10, 2012 with registration opening in early 2012. The Crystal City Diamond Derby will transform a Crystal City parking garage into an urban cycling arena complete with a glamorous lounge, spectator viewing areas, street art, and an edgy, glitzy, one-of-a-kind experience.
Spectators will be surrounded by the live race as professional bicycle racers, bicycle messengers and amateur cyclists alike glide through the course, collecting diamond-shaped packages with the goal of winning awards and prize money. The Diamond Lounge will be the hub of spectator activity, featuring a big screen displaying the on-course action, a full bar and live music. Cyclists and spectators can also get a breath of fresh air as they head outdoors for a midway featuring food, vendors and a wide-open sprint lane for the cyclists where individual speeds will be measured and race laps counted.
The less competitive and more couture cyclist can grab their derby hats and don their vests for the Crystal City Diamond Derby’s fashion themed social ride, the signature of other D&Q events including the Seersucker Social and the Tweed Ride. Whether you are a competitive, casual or chic cyclist, the Crystal City Diamond Derby is sure to entertain!
