FotoWeek DC is Coming to Crystal City
“Flicker and Flash” Transform Transit Connections
Crystal City (Arlington, VA) – For its first official appearance in Northern Virginia, FotoWeek DC will be crossing the Potomac into Crystal City. From November 7 -14, 2009, 150 photographs will be featured in Arlington’s largest downtown area and will include the Newseum’s Fotobama exhibition and the winners of the 2009 FotoWeek DC competition. There will also be a photo projection on the façade of Lowe Enterprises’ newest retail development at 23rd and Crystal Drive.
“We are proud and eager to bring FotoWeek DC to Crystal City,” said Angela Fox, President and CEO of the Crystal City BID. “The event allows us the opportunity to showcase our accessibility assets including Metro and Crystal City’s extensive interior walkways, which provide a great escape from the November chill. Concluding at a series of photo projections onto Lowe’s Century One Center, the Crystal City photo-walk is sure to dazzle!”
FotoWeek DC was founded in 2008 to celebrate the power of photography with its first weeklong festival drawing over 20,000 visitors and is expected to produce even greater numbers this year. The organization also created the recent Fotobama exhibition that launched at the Newseum and will be making its next debut at the Crystal City venue. FotoWeek DC 2009 will be a photographic immersion, featuring the latest in documentary and fine art, in addition to every genre of photography.
“Crystal City is an ideal venue for FotoWeek - lending itself to an extensive and creative ‘photo-walk,’” said FotoWeek Founder and internationally recognized architect, Theo Adamstein. “We are especially excited to bring enlarged photos from the Fotobama exhibit outside the Newseum for the first time.“
During this special event, visitors can also experience the permanent street art in Crystal City underpasses and on the walls of various buildings throughout the area. Crystal City’s new Artful program boasts vibrant outdoor art that adds to the impact of FotoWeek DC 2009.
