FLASH - A Photo Immersion
Partnership Between Crystal City Business Improvement District and FotoDC Takes a Local Favorite to the Next Level
March 17 - April 17, 2011
Media Preview March 17, 2011
CRYSTAL CITY, VA— Following on the success of last year's G40 Art Summit, the Crystal City Business Improvement District (BID) will partner with FotoDC for a month of incredible imagery, parties and special events in curated and invited pop-up galleries. The 12th and 13th floors of 2450 Crystal Drive will be transformed into a local and international gallery of photography, featuring a multitude of new works. The expansive space will be split up into a locally curated show, an international exhibition, and micro-galleries with space dedicated to individual photographers or participating galleries and nonprofit art spaces. In addition to photography, the space will contain a lounge and bar where visitors can browse through top photography books from around the world and both public and private events will take place throughout the exhibition. FLASH will represent a total photographic immersion featuring works from across the thematic spectrum - from documentary to fine art with every genre represented.
“We are very excited to present the best photographic work from talented photographers throughout the DC metropolitan area. FLASH provides us with the opportunity to bring high caliber work, local and international, and photography books to Northern Virginia.” said FotoDC Founder, Theo Adamstein.
FotoDC continues to grow in its depth and presence – what once started as a week-long festival will have exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and special events taking place throughout the year. The partnership with the CCBID has played a major part in the expansion of FotoWeek DC, from the continued exhibition of FotoWeek DC award-winners in Crystal City’s interior walkways to this new, large-scale collaboration. FLASH furthers the artful mission of the BID by infusing an empty space with art and adding to the texture and vibrancy of Crystal City.
"This will be our third, and by far the largest, collaboration with FotoDC,” said Angela Fox, Crystal City BID President/CEO. “We have thoroughly enjoyed working with them to turn our interior walkways into active art galleries and are now looking forward to expanding that impact."
