Crystal Screen’s 21-Weeks of SUPERHEROES Kicks-Off May 4th
Crystal City’s 3rd Annual Summer Film Festival Expected to be a SUPER Fun Series!
Crystal City (Arlington, VA) – Showcasing 21-weeks of heroes, villains and super powers, the Crystal City Business Improvement District is pleased to announce the kick-off of Crystal Screen: SUPERHEROES on Monday, May 4th. The 2009 season will begin with the Spider-Man trilogy followed by movies featuring the Hulk, Superman, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and culminate with the Batman movies, including the last year’s blockbuster hit, Batman: The Dark Knight.
“We’ve had an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response to SUPERHEROES,” said Angela Fox, President/CEO of the Crystal City BID. “In addition to the widely appealing theme, audiences say that Crystal Screen is a great way to spend an enjoyable evening under the stars. It’s easy to get there via METRO or car and easy to park. It’s easy grab takeout at a nearby restaurant. Crystal Screen takes the hassle out of an outdoor movie experience while demonstrating the wonderful assets and capacity of Crystal City.”
Attracting hundreds of movie buffs each week from across the metropolitan area, Crystal Screen has become a perennial favorite in Crystal City. In addition to selling beer and wine before the movie starts, many Crystal City restaurants will be offering special promotions for eat-in and carry-out orders. And, on May 4th, Noodles & Company will launch the festival by offering a free Noodles, Soup, or Salad to Crystal Screen patrons! Crystal Screen: SUPERHEROES offers the perfect chance to enjoy a leisurely and affordable night out for dinner and a movie.
Crystal Screen can be seen every Monday evening at sundown starting May 4, 2009 through September 21, 2009 in the courtyard along S. Bell Street between 18th and 20th Streets, across from Arena Stage and the Crystal City Metro Station. The venue, one of Crystal City’s many green spaces, is owned, managed, and donated by Vornado/Charles E. Smith. Free garage parking is also available at designated Crystal City garages after 4:00 PM. Movies are held rain or shine, except in cases of severe, inclement weather.
Since it gets dark later in the summer and movies often start past little ones' bedtime, this year the Crystal City BID has partnered with the Crystal City Sports Pub to re-broadcast each movie at 3:30 PM every Wednesday following the outdoor showing, starting May 6, 2009. With blanket in tow, adults and children alike can enjoy the cool surround-sound from the network of TVs on the 3rd floor of the Crystal City Sports Pub located at 529 23rd St. South.
