Crystal City Twilighter 5K Highlights Healthy Lifestyle – Fit and Green
Crystal City (Arlington, VA) – As the sun sets on Saturday, July 26th, runners will take to the streets of Crystal City for the inaugural Crystal City Twilighter 5K race.
The Crystal City Business Improvement District, in partnership with Arlington County and Pacers Running Stores, will host the first annual Crystal City Twilighter 5K road race. Starting and finishing in Arlington’s largest downtown, the race will offer spectacular nighttime views of Crystal City, the Pentagon, and the U.S. Air Force Memorial.
“The Crystal City Twilighter 5K is the perfect event to illustrate that Crystal City is both fun and fit,” said Angela Fox, CCBID President and CEO. “The event complements our growing program of popular active events as part of Crystal FIT and provides an opportunity to introduce new visitors to all that the night-life of Crystal City has to offer.”
The race will feature a flat and fast-paced race through the streets of Crystal City, followed by fun post-run festivities, including beverages, snacks, and music in the courtyard along Crystal Drive across from popular area restaurants and bars. One of only a few evening races in the area, this event is sure to prove popular among running and fitness enthusiasts and is expected to attract over 1500 participants.
“Pacers Running Stores is proud to partner with the Crystal City BID on the inaugural Crystal City Twilighter 5K,” said Kathy Dalby, Race Director. “We are excited to bring this unique race to the local running community and look forward to a great turnout and event.”
The race will also feature a component for the Crystal City BID’s Crystal Green program. Pacers will collect donations of “used but not abused” running and athletic footwear on behalf of Perpetual Prosperity Pump Foundation (www.ppafrica.org), an organization that facilitates economic growth for impoverished communities in Africa. Collected shoes are sorted and sent oversees to Ghana where they are sold in local markets for a few dollars a pair. The proceeds are used for farming supplies, livestock, and educational programs intended to help local farmers and families learn how to create more-sustainable lifestyles. Not only will donations help the environment by keeping millions of shoes out of landfills, but they will also help those in need.
With free garage parking on evenings, weekends, and holidays, Crystal City is the perfect place for visitors to jump onto the Mount Vernon and Four Mile Run trails on foot, bike, or rollers! Crystal City also features a number of Crystal FIT events including the Annual Crystal Rides/U.S. Air Force Cycling Classic, Bike to Work Day, the Arlington/Alexandria Community Bike Ride, the Army 10-Miler, the 9/11 Memorial 5K, and the Marine Corps Marathon. Crystal FIT partners include FitArlington, Arlington Sports, Inc., Washington Area Bicyclist Association, Pacers, and the Marine Corps Marathon.
