Crystal City Gets Wired & Clean for Spring
Green Scene continues with Free Wi-Fi and an Electronic Power Purge
Crystal City (Arlington, VA) – This April brings free Wi-Fi and free electronics recycling to Crystal City as part of the Crystal City Business Improvement District’s (BID) Green Scene, a slate of spring events designed to help Crystal City get fit, healthy and green.
“Crystal City has a strong commitment to being ‘green’ as well as ‘wired’,” said Angela Fox, President/CEO of Crystal City BID. “Green Scene is a great way to combine two of our strengths and provide a significant benefit to the area. We’re excited to bring free Wi-Fi to our community as well as to provide a safe, secure, and non-toxic way to recycle old electronics that keeps them out of landfills.”
Rolling out in April, Crystal City is pleased to bring free Wi-Fi to its workers, residents and visitors. Partnering with Atlantech Online, many of Crystal City’s green spaces and courtyards will be turned into free Internet hot spots. Atlantech Online has already wired many of Crystal City’s businesses and buildings with fiber networks to accommodate high-speed access and secure data lines. Look for the Crystal City Wi-Fi logo to get and stay connected for free.
While Wi-Fi keeps Crystal City connected to the latest technology, Green Scene provides a way to recycle old technology. On April 15th from 7am – 7pm, area businesses and residents can safely and securely recycle unwanted electronics as part of Crystal City’s annual Power Purge, spring cleaning edition. Partnering with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and JK Moving and Storage, Crystal City residents and workers can drop off everything from batteries, desktop computers and laptops, to TVs, monitors and microwaves. The free drop off location is located at the corner of 20th and Bell Street. All items will be taken to a Maryland recycling plant where electronic components are broken down to commodity-grade materials and sold for re-use. This prevents potential data retrieval while fostering safe and secure recycling.
