Crystal City BID Announces Partnership of 9-11 Memorial 5K Race
Crystal City (Arlington, VA) – To honor the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11, and as a healthy and healing tribute to public safety personnel who responded on that day, the Crystal City BID will partner with the Crystal City DoubleTree hotel to host the 7th Annual Arlington Police, Fire and Sheriff 9-11 Memorial 5K Race taking place Saturday, September 6, 2008 in Crystal City at 6PM.
More than 3,000 runners are expected to participate in the 9-11 Memorial 5K Race. Presented by the Arlington Police Charitable Fund, Inc., with assistance from the Arlington County Police, Fire, and Sheriff Departments, the race supports 9-11 related charities. The event has already raised more than $200,000, and the majority of the funds support the U.S. Military through programs such as Operation Purple (a children’s camp for kids whose parents are at war), The Fisher House Foundation (which donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers, for use by Military families), and the Wounded Warriors Project (which helps wounded solidiers with the costs for false limbs).
“The Crystal City/Pentagon City Public Safety teams were the first-responders on that fateful day. This race is about their efforts and the sustained level of physical fitness that their jobs require,” said Angela Fox, President/CEO of the Crystal City BID. “We work with them every day and are honored to support their efforts to promote health and healing while honoring those lost.”
“The 9-11 Memorial Race blends wanting to remember the attacks against our Country with the desire to thank members of the Public Safety and Military Communities while being with friends and family all into a fun and unique community event for all ages,” says Det. Sean Bryson.
The race is open to the general public as well as public safety personnel and members of the U.S. Military. Individual and team awards will be given to the top finishers in the law enforcement, firefighter, military and "open" categories. The start/finish line of the race will be in Crystal City at the DoubleTree Hotel at 300 Army Navy Drive in Arlington. Post-race activities-including award presentations, food and beverages, and entertainment will be held on the DoubleTree grounds immediately following the race. Registration and additional information can be found at http://www.arlington911race.com. Other event sponsors include the DoubleTree Hotel, CDWG, Sands Capital Management, 3D Exhibits, Object Video, Aramark, KBR, CEA, and the Association of the United States Army.
