Crystal City BID Announces “Crystal Rolls” Rollerblading event and “Crystal Block” Outdoor Summer Block Party
(July 24, 2007) Crystal City, VA – It is summer and Crystal City is gearing up for a Saturday unlike any other. Not only will Crystal Drive be transformed into Arlington’s version of “Beach Drive,” August 25 will feature a Crystal City community-driven block party.
As part of the Crystal City BID’s Crystal FIT campaign, a program designed to highlight a community of fitness and fun, “Crystal Rolls” will create a Rock Creek Park/Beach Drive-like rollerblading experience in Crystal City. Crystal Drive between 15th and 23rd streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8 a.m. to noon to create Crystal Rolls - an exciting street rollerblading experience. This is a unique opportunity to take advantage of the streetscape and rollerblade, cycle, and run on long stretches of roadway.
“Crystal City has a healthy footprint and this activity emphasizes some of the best that Crystal City has to offer the region,” says Angela Fox, Executive Director for the Crystal City BID. “We welcome everyone to come down, bring your blades and bikes and enjoy a morning of active fun.”
Stick around because from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., the fun continues with the BID’s “Crystal Block,” an outdoor party on 23rd Street between South Eads and South Fern streets. This community block party will celebrate historic “Restaurant Row” and feature an array of live musical entertainment and family-friendly activities. The musical lineup includes the Johnny Artist Band, the Fabulous Mary Ann Redmond Band, and the Niki Barr Band.
Several restaurants will provide promotions, coupons and food samples to add flavor to the day.
“Crystal Block is the first of its kind for historic 23rd Street Restaurant Row,” Fox says. “We look forward to this becoming an annual event for Crystal City and the entire community.”
The Crystal City BID has partnered with the Crystal City Sports Pub, Stars & Stripes, Freddie’s Beach Bar, Café Pizzaiolo, BB&T, Burke & Herbert, and Enjera to help coordinate the event.
