Public Space Maintenance & Enhancement
Green spaces in public right-of-ways are often accepted as bland and forgotten spaces in the hierarchy of our public spaces. In Crystal City, however, these spaces are critical for projecting an attractive, green and clean image. To ensure these spaces meet this task, the Crystal City BID takes responsibility for maintaining and upgrading medians and traffic islands throughout the area. The Crystal City BID partners with ValleyCrest Landscape Maintenance to assist with regular weekly maintenance requirements as well as upgrades that make the area more attractive and environmentally friendly.
Maintenance Map
Over the past several years, the Crystal City BID has systematically been upgrading the service areas that it maintains to 1) create attractive public spaces; and 2) improve the sustainability of the area’s landscaping. This has been accomplished primarily by replacing turf with drought resistant and perennial grasses and flowers. The following presentation includes some examples of completed upgrades throughout the area.
