FLORAL FRENZY
The Crystal City area is well known for its immaculate landscaping and beautiful splashes of color with seasonal flower plantings. In a partnership with Vornado/Charles E. Smith and Landscape Management Group, the Crystal City BID introduced the Floral Frenzy, allowing area residents, office workers, and visitors to bring home a part of the award-winning landscape with the Bulb Blitz in the Spring, the Tropical Storm at the end of the summer, and the Geranium grab in the early Fall. Each iteration of the Floral Frenzy helps green area offices and residences while recycling plants and eliminating waste.
Bulb Blitz
Occurring each spring after the beautiful tulip blooms have peaked, the Bulb Blitz invites area residents and workers to dig in on the fun of removing the thousands of tulip bulbs along Crystal City Drive in preparation for the Spring seasonal plantings. Typically discarded after a single season of blooming, these high quality bulbs will continue to bloom for many years. Gardeners can take the bulbs home and save them for the opportune time to plant them. The event takes place in May along the sidewalk and open space at 2121 Crystal Drive.

Geranium Grab
Geraniums dominate much of the planting area along Crystal Drive and the Geranium Grab allows area residents and workers to take home still healthy geraniums to add some final fall color to their offices, homes, and gardens. Crystal City banner bags are provided to participants as a means to easily take their hauls home in an environmentally-friendly manner. The event takes place in October along the sidewalk and open space at 2121 Crystal Drive.

Tropical Storm
Huge tropical ferns and other plants are common sites along Crystal Drive during warm Washington area summers. Although the plants can survive year round in warmer climates, the plants need to be replaced with hardier species in the fall or be brought indoors. The Floral Frenzy’s Tropical Storm allows area residents and workers to rescue those plants that would have otherwise been thrown into the compost pile! Once brought indoors, these tropicals can thrive all-year long with lucky gardeners able to take home ferns, palms, ficus trees and banana plants. The plants are given away at the Crystal City FreshFarms Farmers Market in October.
