Momentum: The Next Generation of Metro
Metro is at a critical juncture. Since the system opened, the region has grown tremendously; yet investments and upgrades to the system did not keep up. Over the last three years, Metro has been focused on rebuilding the system and restoring safe and reliable operations for customers through its Metro Forward program. While Metro is working to bring the system back up to where it should be, the agency is also preparing to launch the Silver Line. To ensure Metro is able to carry millions more riders in the years to come, and to help keep the region's economy moving, Metro has created Momentum, a strategic plan that will guide Metro’s decisions over the next 10 years.
The plan includes longer trains during rush hours, more and faster bus service traveling in bus-only lanes and with traffic signal priority, expansion and improvements at key rail transfer stations such as Gallery Place and Metro Center, and new technology for state-of-the-art fare and customer information systems.
We need your voice to make Momentum a reality. Join the Crystal City BID in advocating for the plan. We ask that you go online today to learn more and to endorse Momentum at www.wmata.com/momentum!
The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) represents one of the most popular non-metro systems for Crystal City employees. Located adjacent to the Crystal City Water Park, the Crystal City VRE station provides convenient transit access to suburban Virginia commuters seeking a reprieve from the area’s congested roadways. Serviced by both the Manassas and Fredericksburg VRE lines, the station boasts the second highest ridership, second only to L’Enfant Plaza in downtown DC. A fair number of savvy Crystal City residents also take advantage of the VRE as an express train directly to downtown without any stops.
